Hello!
My name is Fiona, I’m a Randwick psychologist providing psychotherapy within a psychodynamic and interpersonal framework. After spending time studying interstate and living overseas, I’m back and delighted to be practicing locally in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney.
My philosophy is that everyone has their own unique and wonderful ways. Psychotherapy is not about “changing” you — it’s about expanding your understanding of yourself and the world around you, so it all fits together better.
I completed my Clinical Masters at Victoria University in Melbourne, which is the Australian psychology school with the longest history of specialising in the psychodynamic approach. This means we will work at a deeper level than you may find with other psychotherapeutic styles.
I have experience in community mental health organisations, counselling services, psychiatric hospitals and the not-for-profit sector. I currently also work as a clinical trial psychologist for the University of Sydney.
I use evidence-based psychotherapies that are tailored to your individual needs. With my background in creative arts and communication, our therapy sessions will be interesting, meaningful and engaging.
We might even share a laugh together.
HOW I WORK
My philosophy
My psychotherapeutic philosophy is based in the psychodynamic understanding of mental health treatment. This seeks to relieve distress and frustration by uncovering psychological forces that underlie human behaviour and emotions, and by understanding how our relations with others affect our mental wellbeing.
Therapies I use
My approach draws upon Interpersonal Therapy, Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, and Compassion-Focused Therapy.
Your story
Everyone has a unique way of modelling the world that is shaped by their past. Narrative-based communication is an engaging style of therapeutic interaction that helps to elicit these stories, as this will allow us to understand and re-frame your experiences.
A bit about me…
My background is in theater and the arts. Prior to becoming a psychologist I worked for a number of well-known organisations including Queensland Theatre Company, Channel 7, Arts Law and Justice Connect.
I have travelled and lived in many places overseas, including Mexico, India, Nepal, Canada, Germany, UK and Serbia. I love the mystery of mountains, the vastness of the ocean, the intrigue of cities, and the joy of people around the world.
These days, in my down time you can often find me in or near the water at one of the Eastern Suburbs beaches, often with my little daughter in tow.
